Climber Anurag Maloo Survives

Earlier this season, Indian mountaineer Anurag Maloo survived a near-death accident on Annapurna in Nepal. Since being rescued, he’s been recovering in hospital and recently shared a message of thanks.

Maloo, a resident of Kishangarh in Rajasthan, went missing in mid-April after he fell from around 6,000 metres while descending from camp three on the world’s 10th highest mountain. He was found alive in a deep crevasse at 5,800 metres after three days of continuous search. He was rescued by Adam Bielecki, Tashi Sherpa, Mariusz Hatala, and others.  He was then rushed to Manipal Hospital in Pokhara before being airlifted to Kathmandu.

Maloo was hoping to climb all 14 peaks above 8,000 metres and the seven highest points in all seven continents to create awareness and drive action towards achieving the UN Global Goals. He’s received several awards over the years.

Maloo recently said on social media, “Thank you so much everyone for your overwhelming support. I couldn’t have come this far without your well-wishes and keeping me in your thoughts. I’m very, very grateful that you are here, and thank you for just being out there, sending good vibes. Lots of love, sending this to you from ICU in Delhi on my 35th birthday.” Bielecki said that seeing the message “made my day.”
